Like many others I too was impressed by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on India (Bharat? No one cares) turning 68.

Modi is great orator and he can charm a bird from a tree.

With many of us feeling depressed that antinational Congress had shortchanged India for so long, Modi coming to national scene and saying “I salute our brave freedom fighters today” certainly brings a glow of happiness. Every Indian wants to be patriotic but when politicians set the stage for divide-and-rule there is confusion and murky thinking and self-destruction. {Already Laloos and MULLAHyams are mumbling darkly about caste census report which is VERY VERY VERY foreboding}

Modi talked about Team India and surprisingly against casteism and communalism which was shocking if not surprising.

He said “Jan Bhagidari” – hope he is including both quotas and non-quotawallahs like all of — is the biggest asset of our democracy. True Modiji that is how all developed nations, except we Indians, have grown stronger and stronger becoming super power. That is how China has made it so big that it now threatens the United States of America.

But when he said “the poor want to move away from poverty and that is why, all our programmes must be for the poor” I was confused. IS HE SPEAKING SPECIOUSLY? If I am not a fool and understand the situation correctly the real poor are those who are “rich and hold caste quota certificates.” Right? Do the really poor in India count in political calculation except as a means of using them as pawns to cut-throat one’s opponents?

I SIMPLY DON’T UNDERSTAND TO WHOM IS HE REFERRING. The problem with me is I am viciously fighting against being corrupted by quota-secular thinking which perverts rich as poor. I do feel odd given the perverse thinking that prevails everywhere.

Now coming to Modi’s poor does he know eight Indian states are acutely poor? They include Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal among others and these eight account for more poor people than the 26 poorest African nations combined. {…/8-ind…/article1-1362896.aspx }

As per a new method called the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) there are more ‘MPI poor’ people in eight Indian states (421 million of them in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal) than in the 26 poorest African countries combined (410 million). THIS SATYAMEVA JAYATE IS COMING FROM UNDP.

Those who created this poverty to beggar and rule India are still alive and kicking and aiming to dislodge Modi at the first opportunity. They are the Left and Left-of-the-centre like Cong, SP, RJD, JDU etc.

The MPI assesses a range of critical factors or ‘deprivations’ at the household level: from education to health outcomes to assets and services. Taken together, these factors provide a fuller portrait of acute poverty than simple income measures. THEN WHERE HAS THE QUOTA benefits GONE WHEN 75 PER CENT OF INDIA HAS BEEN QUOTAISED? Modi must introspect.

WHY IS QUOTA INDIA HARMING ITSELF? The reason is very simple. IN QUOTA INDIA RICH are getting richer and POOR getting poorer. How scandalous it is can be seen from the fact that in 2010, one third of the world’s 1.2 billion EXTREME POOR lived in India alone.

On one side are rich quotawallahs who deprive their poor CASTEIST BROTHERS in share of quota pie with such blatant disregard that India has lost even its fig-leaf of shame.

On the other are those billionaires, like Adanis and Ambanis. whose tribe seems to be growing fast every year { There are now 97 Indian billionaires } and these are more than a match to the growing billionaires say even in the US or China. HOW IS THIS SKEWED WEALTH DISTRIBUTION TAKING PLACE? IS ANYONE THINKING ABOUT IT?

………………………………………POVERTY IN INDIA

EVERY INDIAN SEEMS TO BE HAVING QUOTAS (or imagines he will have one soon) and yet he claims he is poor. EVEN IAS OFFICERS CLAIM THAT THEY ARE BACKWARD. The reason is simple and which the political scum try to hide as nothing is done at grassroots level except CHEAP sloganeering.

• 50% of Indians don’t have proper shelter;
• 70% don’t have access to decent toilets (which helps multitude of bacteria to spread unchecked);
• 35% of households don’t have a nearby water source;
• 85% of villages don’t have a secondary school (how can this be the same government claiming 9% annual growth?);
• Over 40% of these same villages don’t have proper roads connecting them.

Despite the country’s meteoric GDP growth rate (about 9%), poverty in India is still all-pervasive; especially in rural areas where 70% of India’s 1.2 billion population live.

Politicians promise the moon through sloganeering. But the tragedy is the poor continue to be misled even as they sink deeper into poverty quagmire.

Time we Indians ask why is QUOTAS BEING USED FOR DIVERSION when the ground reality is so grim?

We have to look at the perspective of the poor if we really are wishing our friends a HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY. It is time we shed a tear for all those poor who cannot avail education, food, shelter. That is the least we can do.

I AM SURE INDIANS DESPITE ALL THEIR DRAWBACKS HAVE NOT BECOME YET STONE-HEARTED or so cruel as the politicians we elect to rule over us.
